ASO keyword difficulty checker
A 0–100 difficulty score for any App Store or Google Play keyword, adjusted for something other tools ignore: how unhappy the top apps’ users are. Unhappy incumbents are beatable incumbents.
How it works
- 01
Enter keywords
Up to 5 at a time, for the App Store or Google Play, in any of 40+ countries.
- 02
We score the top 10
The base score comes from how many ratings the top 10 apps have and how many are rated 4.5★ or higher.
- 03
Adjusted for weakness
We read recent reviews of the top 5. The more 1–2★ reviews they get, the lower the difficulty, with the reasons spelled out.
Questions
What do the numbers mean?
Easy is under 40, Medium 40–69, Hard 70 and above. Use it to compare keywords with each other rather than as an absolute probability; the weights are hand-tuned.
Why adjust for review weakness?
Two keywords can have equally big incumbents, but if one set of apps is getting a wave of 1–2★ reviews, their users are looking for an alternative. That keyword is easier to win than its size suggests.
Does it work for Google Play?
Yes. Google Play search results don’t include rating counts, so we fetch them for the top 5 apps when computing the adjusted score.
